Europ'Raid (part 2)
For this third article, I'd like to tell you more about my trip in Europe. And the next country I wanted to talk about is Montenegro.
As soon as we crossed the country's border (which was very, very long), we drove through Durmitor National Park. The views were wonderful and very unusual, we took a lot of pictures and videos.
After a small lunch, we went directly to Podgorica, the capital. And it would be a lie to say that we were not disappointed. The city was almost empty of its inhabitants and things to visit were very limited. That's why I advise you if you go to Montenegro to try to visit mainly its nature and make a maximum of hiking in its landscapes that are just incredible.
The next day, we drove to Albania. As we spent a large part of the day driving and doing our solidarity action by distributing our supplies in a small school, I can't really give you my impressions of this country except that the people are very nice. They live with half of what we have which makes them appreciate the simple things. It was a great life lesson for our team.
After this emotional moment, we spent three days in Greece. Even if I really liked Athens and its acropolis, I guess that my favorite place still the Meteors. These are geological rock formations in northern Greece with monasteries built on cliff tops. The view is beautiful and we were lucky to have good weather.
In the days that followed, we crossed Macedonia, Bulgaria and Romania. During this step, we have decided to join another crew in its solidarity action in Macedonia where we were able to attend a singing performance by the children. It was sweet.
In Bulgaria, we took the time to visit Sofia, the capital. And we all loved it. We enjoyed its famous St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and walked through its many green spaces. Sofia is a pretty capital city that is worth a visit, but it is quite small and going around it takes at most a few days.
About Romania, we visited Bucharest and its Parliament. That's what impressed me the most in this town. I had never seen such an imposing building in my life. We parked our car in a square right in front of it, and I can tell you that we felt really small.
After visiting these capitals, we needed to return to some natural landscapes. And it was good timing because we had to cross the Transfagarasan road. A road of more than 100 km through the high Romanian mountains. Once again, it was beautiful. We stopped at the top of one of the mountains where we took some pictures and walked among the small sellers of local products. In some places, there were big blocks of snow which made us feel weird in the middle of summer with our little t-shirts on.
At this moment of our trip, we really realised the adventure we were living and we were completely accustomed to this mobile way of life. I think it's really incredible to live this kind of adventure while you're still young or not, you meet lots of people and develop autonomy and open-mindedness. So if you have the chance to experience a trip like that, don't hesitate and go for it.
For the end of our trip, we focused mainly on visiting the cities and capitals. Budapest, Krakow, Berlin, Prague, Amsterdam each city is worth a visit. But if I have to recommend one, I think I would choose Budapest directly. And after talking with many other teams, it's still one of the favourite cities. The buildings are all so beautiful and there's so much to do. Very famous for its thermal baths that we had the chance to test, Budapest is a city to visit and I really plan to go back there one day to spend more time.
It is therefore very tired and full of memories that we finished our trip in the middle of August. It was a great experience and it made me want to travel even more. And now, I hope that these short descriptions of my favourite places in Europe will make you want to travel there too…
